Annual report 2024

SCI’s annual report showcases the work of the international coordination and movement over the past year. Besides information on SCI’s finances, decision-making structures and statistics of the past year, the annual report gives information about our projects and campaigns as well as insights into the activities of our branches.

More from Volunteers

Energised by all the activities implemented this year, we are standing strong in our commitment to peace and we keep cultivating the spirit of solidarity within and outside our movement. In a world that is driving deeper and deeper divisions between people, and that seems to turn more and more to violence as an answer, collective practices of resistance to the logics of hate and war are essential for our future.

Volunteer exchanges

In 202, workcamps focussed on different themes, many centering their activities on art, culture and local history; environment protection; and children and youth. Other workcamps allowed participants to contribute to community life, participate in climate and sustainable lifestyle activities, galvanise efforts regarding antiracism, antifascism, remembrance,  work with people with disabilities, contribute to peace and disarmament and raise awareness on the topics of poverty and social injustice. In a few camps, volunteers contributed to international solidarity and worked in support of refugees, immigrants and ethnic minorities, as well as elderly people.

We had a total of 1007 volunteers participating in SCI projects.

Projects

International projects are one of the tools helping the SCI Movement achieve its strategic goals and strengthen the organisation in the following key areas: cooperation, sharing, advocacy, financial strength and transparency, capacity building, and communication.

PLACEMENT OFFICER TRAINING

Partnership on Peace

In the second edition of its regranting scheme, developed in the scope of SCI’s Operating Grant under CERV, the International Secretariat of SCI invited proposals from its member organisations based in EU member states, for projects to be supported throughout the year. The aim of the Regranting Scheme is to financially support network branches to carry out activities which promote the core values of SCI and the values of the European Union (EU).

In 2024, 6 projects were submitted and selected.

Awareness Raising

In 2024, wars and armed conflicts have continued across the world, with more than 30 registered conflicts—some occurring in areas where SCI has volunteers and partners. The escalation of the war on Gaza, along with its expansion to the West Bank and Lebanon, is one of the crises that has prompted deep reflection on our values and mission.

As a movement rooted in peace and with strong historical ties to Palestinian peace organizations, we felt it was essential to raise awareness on this issue through events, statements, seminars, and internal discussions.

More from Volunteers

IThese two condensed weeks forged some wonderful friendships, friendships that had an invasive tree that’s hard to uproot, a horse ride or a few drinks as witnesses. Because that’s what volunteer projects are all about for me: getting together around a cause that you feel is right, sharing both effort and conviviality, acquiring knowledge and know-how, and forging precious friendships.

Looking around me, I realized that the friends by my side today had become close friends. I also met new volunteers who played an important role in my project. Surrounded and supported by these people from all over the world, who now held a special place in my new life, I felt loved and incredibly lucky. Even after some of them left, I continued to make equally meaningful connections until the end of this adventure.
