Projects selected in 2025

Background and aims

The International Secretariat (IS) of Service Civil International (SCI) invited proposals from its member organisations based in European Union (EU) member states, for projects planned to take place in the 2025 year. This was possible in the scope of SCI’s Operating Grant under the EU’s Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme (CERV), Partnership on Peace 2025 (101194475). The aim of the Re-granting Scheme is to financially support network branches to carry out activities which promote the core values of SCI and the values of the European Union (EU).

Selected projects

We received 9 applications for the regranting scheme, and after following an agreed-upon process, the following 8 projects were selected:

Organisation: SCI Italy

Awarded grant: 10,000€

Duration: 8 months

Themes: Peace and intercultural dialogue; Inclusion

Type of activity: Capacity building activities

This project aims to strengthen activists’ knowledge of SCI structure and train new workcamp coordinators. A key objective is strengthened regional cooperation within civil society. Key activities include a training for workcamp coordinators in Bologna (and potentially Milan), a Training of Trainers for SCI activists (potentially in Milan, Bologna, or Rome), and a National Assembly. The target group includes experienced activists and potential new coordinators from across Italy.

Awarded grant: 18,000€

Duration: 9 months

Themes: Peace and intercultural dialogue; Inclusion; Environmental Protection and Climate Justice; Social Justice

Type of activity: Social inclusion and anti-discrimination activities

 This project aims to reinforce local volunteering focusing on inclusion, youth empowerment, and ecological sustainability. Key objectives include promoting and reactivating volunteering. Key activities include inclusion grants, green travel grants, mini-workcamps, including a trilateral one in Elna, and activities to merge SCI Catalonia’s strategies with the SCI International strategic plan. The target audience includes youth and adults with fewer opportunities and current volunteers.

Duration: 9 months

Themes: Peace and intercultural dialogue

Type of activity: Awareness-raising activities

This project aims to raise awareness about ongoing wars, genocides, nuclear weapons, and European militarisation. Key objectives include strengthening SCI’s reputation as a peace organisation. Key activities include “Films Against War” screenings in Berlin, Dublin, Athens, and Amsterdam, online “Talks Against War,” a “No More War Closed Assembly,” a camp against the NATO summit in The Hague, and social media campaigns.

Awarded grant: 9,000€

Duration: 7 months

Themes: Peace and intercultural dialogue;

Type of activity: Awareness-raising activities

This project aims to promote peace and the values of VSI and SCI by celebrating their anniversaries. Key objectives include raising awareness of peace and EU values, and combatting social exclusion. Activities will include a conference, a ‘mini’ film festival, a human library, and an exhibition in Dublin, involving diverse target groups like current and former volunteers, youth organisations, and the general public. The main event will coincide with the International Day of Peace

Awarded grant: 17,000€

Duration: 9 months

Themes: Peace and intercultural dialogue

Type of activity:  Historical research and digitisation projects

This project aims to explore the legacy of WWII and promote peace and democracy. Key objectives include increasing citizen awareness of EU rights and values. Key activities involve organising eight study camps at memorial sites like Ravensbrück and Buchenwald, and a dissemination seminar to present and evaluate the camp results. A seminar on anti-fascism is also planned. The target group is mainly young people from EU countries.

Themes: Peace and intercultural dialogue; inclusion

Type of activity:  Awareness-raising activities

This project is a series of interactive workshops exploring LGBTQIA+ matters, inequality, and social narratives. Its aims are to empower the Queer community and foster dialogue on queerness. Key activities include guided discussions, interactive activities, and artistic interventions across four sessions in Athens. The project will culminate in a video capturing key moments. The target group includes members of the queer community and allies.

Duration: 7 months

Themes: Environmental Protection and Climate Justice

Type of activity: Capacity building activities

The Circular Lab aims to promote education and awareness of sustainability, circular economy, and responsible consumption. Key objectives include building the capacity of educators and raising public awareness. Key activities include a training for educators, “Do it like grandma” community workshops, webinars with Global South experts, and the creation of promotional and educational content. The target groups include teachers, youth, and the local community in Poznań.

Awarded grant: 10,000€

Duration: 7 months

Themes:  Peace and intercultural dialogue; Inclusion 

Type of activity:  Awareness-raising activities

The DOBRO project aims to counter shrinking civic space in Bulgaria by raising awareness and promoting volunteering with refugees and asylum seekers. Key objectives include creating a more supportive environment for CSOs and increasing citizen awareness of EU rights and values. Key activities include DOBROacts (volunteering with refugees), DOBROcast (online podcast episodes), and DOBROfest (an awareness-raising event). The project targets local volunteers, the local and international public, and local and international NGOs

SCI’s Re-granting Scheme (FSTP) is funded by the European Union’s CERV (Citizens, Equality, Rights, and Values) Programme. Grants are available for CSOs in EU countries.
